Scouting Report. - LHP - Oliver Santos

Oliver Santos

LHP      6-4      210      Orange (Calif.) Lutheran

60 innings pitched, 82 strikeouts, 1.18 WHIP

11-11-21 - Baseball America -

Lefthander Oliver Santos has a big, strong frame and has advanced feel on the mound. His fastball sits in the upper 80s and he has room to grow into more velocity in time, to go with three promising offspeed offerings. He also has a powerful righthanded swing and could see action as a two-way player.

10-16-21 - BA -

Oliver Santos, LHP, Orange (Calif.) Lutheran

Travel Team: BPA

Commitment: Duke

Santos toed the rubber for BPA against a solid Canes Prospect team on day two, tossing five innings and allowing three hits and one run, while striking out nine batters and walking none. A 6-foot-4, 210-pound lefthander, Santos works out of a deliberate windup, with a bit of length and depth in his arm stroke, but a fairly easy delivery overall and solid command of a four-pitch mix.

He touched 93 mph early in the outing but sat around 90-91 for the most part, while also showing two distinct breaking balls and a firm, upper-80s changeup with fading action to the arm side.

His primary breaking ball was a slider in the 78-80 mph range that showed solid tilt and three-quarters shape. The pitch hung up at times and looked below-average later in the outing but at best it was a solid-average secondary with 2,100 rpm spin. Santos also broke out a lower-70s curveball that he struggled to get on top of consistently, and for now his more firm breaking ball is his better spin offering.

10-8-21 - Perfect Game Scout @PG_Scouting

Oliver Santos (‘22 CA) filling it up, missing bats, & punching out 5 thru 3 hitless. 4 pitch mix, FB 89-91 T93, big breaking CB, & this sharp SL in the upper-70s.

Brian Sakowski @B_Sakowski_PG

Santos brought out the A stuff today, good look at the SL for swing and miss below. Full mix, great size, does it easy, stuff continues to tick up…continues to rise up tiers of prep arms as we’ve gone along this year

9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -

100 Oliver Santos

LHP Orange Lutheran Newport Coast, CA

Santos is an advanced, angular lefty who presents a ton of angle and limbs to the opposition. The fastball has been up to 91 with steepness. Santos can throw a pretty fuzzy curveball with significant drop and feel. He's got a turn-me-over changeup that's can be inconsistent, but he's shown confidence in it. He works in a cutter/slider that has more sweep than depth. Santos has decisive, athletic movements on the mound and fully displays starter traits. High-ceiling arm with significant projection.

5-18-21 - PG -

Oliver Santos (Calif.)

6-4/210 R/L

Commitment: Duke

PG Events: 26

Key Stats: 60 innings pitched, 82 strikeouts, 1.18 WHIP

Short Story: The velocity hasn’t popped yet, but there is little question about the fastball command and competitiveness of Santos. He can pitch to contact or move the heater around to get high-pressure strikeouts.

Big Moment: Santos has always been good and he's been a very consistent performer over the years. Lets go with his last outing at a Perfect Game event, the 2020 WWBA World Championship, where he threw a complete game two-hit masterpiece where he struck out an eye-popping 14 hitters. A huge outing against older competition.

Bold Prediction: The velocity pops and the breaking ball takes a step forward. He is a very good athlete with two-way potential, but the upside on the mound is too much to ignore.
